Places to See in Mauritius

Mauritius is a one of the most beautiful island and has so many beautiful places to see. Although Mauritius looks like a small dot on world map but it is famous  for its beautiful locations. Here is a small list of some popular places you must see.

 

The Champ de Mars Racecourse:
It's a racing track used for the horse racing in the city of Port Louis in Mauritius. It is located near the city center, in the Mauritius Turf Club(MTC). The MTC is one of the oldest club for horse racing and it was founded in 1812. On June 25 of that year, this racecourse was opened and, on that day, the first race was organized on the island. The Champ de Mars has a very special track path with oval shape and it is small in size, and the length of the track is 1,298 meters and width of 12 to 14 meters. The Champ de Mars Racecourse.JPG

 

Ganga Talao:
It is also called Grand Bassin. It is a crater lake which is located in a hidden zone of a mountain in Savanne district, Mauritius. The location is almost 1800 meters above from the sea level and it is the most sacred place for Hindus in Mauritius. A temple is located here which is devoted to Hindu Lord Shiva, Vishnu, Lakshmi, Hanuman and many other Hindu gods. Many pilgrims, living in Mauritius come here for praying and many devotees even come here bare feet during Shivaratri. Ganga Talao.jpg

 

Mahebourg:
Mahebourg, famous for its natural beauty, is one of the main fishing centers of Mauritius. Every year, tourists from all over the world are attracted by this beautiful city with many rivers, picturesque harbor and lovely bay. The old town of the city founded by the Dutch. It represent the European style of architecture with colonial buildings and streets. The Museum of Naval Historical is one of the sights of interest which shows the rich history of the city. Similarly, the German Historical Museum, situated in Grand Port spotlights the initial Dutch establishments in the country. Lagoon is one of the natural attractions of Mahebourg which is regarded as the country's largest. The boardwalk in Mahebourg is best for evening walk and for relaxing. The recently created casinos and increasing numbers of small inns are few of the positive developments for the city.

Flic en Flac:
The stunning town of Flic en Flac is blessed with n
atural attractions like beaches, lovely landscapes and huge beach resorts. The Flic en Flac beach, located on the west coast is one of the main tourist attractions. It attracts many beach lovers, especially during the weekends. Its soft white sands and azure waters offers some of the best outdoor recreational activities. Similarly, the Blue Bay beach located in southeast is famous for swimming and other water sports such as windsurfing and sailing. The lagoon is another interesting site that offers excellent snorkeling and swimming opportunities.
